FINCA SANTA ISABEL, NICARAGUA
Our coffee purchasing relationship with Jaime was one of our very first, and it is certainly the longest standing. In the early days of exploring farmer partnerships, our team flew to Managua, Nicaragua and traveled north near the Honduran border. When we arrived in the town of Ocotal, we were directed to the local coffee mill. There we asked to be introduced to the farmers who brought their cherry for processing. Around the mill, Jaime’s name was repeatedly mentioned as not only a great farmer but a great leader in his community.
Since we were first introduced to Jaime in 2012, we have visited him dozens of times.
Jaime is a natural leader and a pillar of his community. He works tirelessly to maintain the legacy of his father, who was the first to produce coffee in the Dipilto region in the 1940’s. Jaime has now been operating his farm for more than 30 years, and you can taste his experienced hand in the quality of every cup. Jaime is also a heck of a guy.
He employs more than 50 laborers during harvest who pick and dry his coffee. He then sends his coffee to be processed at the dry mill, which exports to Think Coffee. We visit the dry mill often for quality assurance.
Think Coffee has a direct relationship with Jaime and a number of his farm workers. We have verified that Jaime pays a livable wage to both his full time and seasonal workers. We also have an ongoing Common Good Project with him to provide clean drinking water to his farmworker community.

SAFE DRINKING WATER FOR 1,000 PEOPLE.
A lack of reasonably accessible safe drinking water is an unfortunate problem for the families of many coffee laborers in the dry-climate community of Totogalpa, Nicaragua. Until our partnership with Jaime, many of the water wells in the community had not been enclosed to prevent contamination by animal and other waste, which led to widespread illness.

We are extremely proud of our partnership with farmer Jaime Lovo, whose farm sits right on the Honduran border, in the northern region of Dipilto, Nicaragua. His dedication to quality over quantity is reflected in this exceptional coffee. We are thrilled to purchase his entire harvest each year, and even more excited to share that the quality has consistently improved over time. The latest harvest is particularly noteworthy. It features a Caturra varietal with delightful aromas from the surrounding citrus trees and a satisfyingly mellow undertone derived from the exceptionally fertile soil. This coffee is a testament to the passion and hard work that Jaime puts into his craft, and we are honored to be a part of it.
