rebuilding.
When we first arrived in the community of Aponte, the devastation was undeniable, homes destroyed and livelihoods disrupted.
We realized immediately: this was about more than buying coffee. Aponte didn’t just need a market, they needed partners in recovery. A geological shift had shaken their land, but it hadn’t shaken their determination.
By supporting the rebuilding of homes, we saw an opportunity to do more than just help, we could empower. Together, we not only restored what was lost, but helped Aponte emerge stronger, more resilient, and more stronger as a coffee-growing community.

geological shift.
In 2016, disaster struck the remote community of Aponte. A shifting fault line tore through the town, causing homes to collapse and forcing countless coffee-farming families to relocate.
But from the rubble, a movement began.
Alongside our committed partners Karen Mora and José Gomez, we launched an effort to support those hit, helping families relocate, rebuild, and reclaim their future.
This work goes beyond bricks and mortar. It’s about protecting a way of life, empowering families to keep farming their land, sustain their livelihoods, and rebuild with dignity and strength.

92 families supported.
Over six transformative years, we supported families to rebuild their lives, completing 92 homes across the Aponte community.
We delivered over 100,000 bricks, 5,000+ bags of cement, hundreds of roofing sheets, and 100+ tons of building materials. Some built from scratch, others restored family farms. From single mothers with limited resources to families with modest means, we focused on those who needed it most.
It became the most impactful rebuilding project Aponte has ever seen.
Today, local farmers are thriving. With secure homes and direct access to the coffee market, they invest their earnings into their farms and families.
