Our Composting Initiative
ALL OF OUR CUPS, LIDS AND OTHER SINGLE-USE PACKAGING IS COMPOSTABLE. IF YOU BOUGHT IT IN OUR STORES, YOU CAN COMPOST IT IN OUR STORES.
It is an enormous problem in the retail coffee industry that used disposable products end up in landfill. For example, as many as 60 billion paper coffee cups are dumped into landfill every year. Why? Because conventional hot cups cannot be recycled or composted. They are lined with a thin layer of plastic that makes them watertight, but the plastic lining also makes it impossible for them to be recycled nearly everywhere, including New York City.
There is an alternative though. Compostable cups have a plant-based lining. While compostable cups are much more expensive than conventional cups, we think the earth is worth it.
